Stemmer's Run Reservoir Closed to Fishing

The US Army Corp of Engineers has closed their Pearce Creek Property in Cecil County to all recreational activities, which includes closing Stemmers Run Reservoir to fishing. Preparations for upcoming dredging projects are ongoing there and will create safety hazards to the public. Estimated length of closure is 18 months.

Unicorn Lake Access Affected During Construction Project

October 16 update -Anticipated completion is Dec 1 due to construction delays. The Lake is currently being drawn down for the filter box installation and access to the Lake will be severely limited. Any persons thinking about fishing Unicorn should use other area lakes noted below.​

August 19 Update -Starting the week of Aug 23 the Unicorn facility access will be closed to the public due to replacing pipes under the access roads. Those persons who had planned to fish at Unicorn should use the alternative sites listed below. Once the road crossings have been completed another statement concerning access will be announced.​​

Due to the construction project at the Unicorn Lake Hatchery, access to Unicorn Lake and the surrounding facility will be limited or closed to the public at certain times until the project is completed. This project will replace old, failing hatchery supply pipes and is scheduled to begin June 24, 2015.

During the project the entrance gate will open at 6:30 AM and will be closed at 5:30 PM on weekdays for security and safety purposes. No facility access will be permitted outside of these hours. The facility will be entirely closed to the public on weekends. Temporary weekday closures may also occur as needed. A portion of the Unicorn Lake parking lot is designated as a staging area for materials and equipment. Visitors are asked to check with staff before parking vehicles.

There are other DNR managed lakes in the region that offer similar recreational opportunities. Please consider visiting Urieville Lake, Wye Mills Lake and Smithville Lake.
