A Maryland Fishing License & a Promise to Spend Time Together in the Outdoors

The annual non-tidal license for a resdient cost $20.50 and allows the licensee to fish in the fresh waters of Maryland 365 days from the date of purchase. Visit DNR Online to find the license agent nearest you.

Valentine’s Hike and Campfire

Description: Spend Valentines Day on the shores of the Patuxent River. We'll start with a guided hike of our Critical Area Driving Tour, featuring the Lookout Creek Trail and our scenic boardwalk that goes out on to the Patuxent. Then snuggle up with your valentine and enjoy a campfire, chocolate covered fruit, sparkling cider or hot chocolate, and music. Top it off with a few stories about local legends and then hike back to our visitor center for a photo op with our resident screech owl, and you'll still have time for dinner and a movie. Directions: From 301 take Croom Rd., turn left onto St. Thomas Church Rd., which will turn into Fenno Rd. Follow sign for Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, which will be on your left.

Description: Participants will enjoy a private tour of the aviary and and enjoy a movie afterwards in the auditorium. Movie: His Girl Friday, a 1940 American comedy film directed by Howard Hawks. Walter Burns (Cary Grant) is a newspaper editor who learns his ex-wife is about to marry a bland insurance man and settle down to a quiet life. Walter determines to sabotage these plans and uses every trick in the book to keep his ex-wife from remarrying.
Cost: $5.00 per person or $8.00 per couple
Directions: From the Beltway (I-695): Take I-795 to Franklin Blvd. West, turn right. Bear right at Church Rd. Turn left at stop sign onto Berrymans Lane. Turn left at Deer Park Rd. and go for 2.5 miles, to Visitor Center entrance on the right. From Rt. 26 West : Take Rt. 26 to Wards Chapel Rd. Turn Left. Follow Wards Chapel to stop sign, and turn right onto Deer Park Rd. Entrance is 1 mile on the right.

A Turkey Point Valentine
Elk Neck State Park

Description: Looking for a different way to celebrate Valentine's Day? Travel to Elk Neck State Park and enjoy a beautiful and informative two mile round-trip stroll up to the Turkey Point Lighthouse. While there, share a refreshing treat of sparkling juice, chocolate covered strawberries and other holiday favorites with your best friend. Enjoy the sunset and get your photo taken by the lighthouse. Parking is limited; reservations required! $20 per couple.
