The Maryland Park Service has teamed with the National Wildlife Federation to celebrate the Great American Campout on June 27, 2015 with events at six State Parks. Refer to the complete list below. The cost of each event varies and all proceeds support nature education programs.
On June 27 thousands of people across the nation will participate in The Great American Campout as they gather in backyards, neighborhoods, communities and parks for a one-night event that encourages a new generation to explore the wonders of nature and have fun participating in a classic, family-friendly outdoor activity known as camping.
Maryland State Parks invites you to join them for a night under the stars at one of their fabulous facilities listed below. No previous camping experience required! They'll provide family-friendly activities, along with some fun giveaways from National Wildlife Federation.
Great American Campout at Sandy Point State Park
Bring your family to camp at Sandy Point State Park overlooking the Chesapeake Bay for our annual Backyard Campout! Exciting campout activities include games for the entire family, nature crafts, a campfire with s'mores. Don't miss out on this great adventure! Check-in begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Check-out is 10 a.m. on Sunday. Great American Campout at Cunningham Falls State Park
If you and your family have never been camping before, then this is the campout for you. Join Cunningham Falls State Park staff and volunteers for an evening of fun and outdoor learning in our Camping 101 experience. The campout will be held in the Manor Area of Cunningham Falls State Park located off of US 15 just south of Thurmont. Participants will learn how to start a campfire, pitch a tent, cook a campfire classic meal, and s'mores. Space is limited. First time family campers only. Great American Campout at Fair Hill NRMA
Bring your family to the McCloskey primitive campsite and pitch a tent under the stars. Campers are responsible for bringing their own equipment and food. Pavilion, charcoal grill and port-o-let available. To register and pay for your campout: by credit card call the Fair Hill office at 410-398-1246 to pay by phone. By check: mail a check payable to Fair Hill NRMA in the amount of $10 to Fair Hill NRMA, 300 Tawes Drive, Elkton MD 21921. Celebrate the experience of a campout at this community campfire program located at the Nature Center at New Germany State Park. Great American Campout at Patapsco Valley State Park
Bring your family to camp at Patapsco Valley State Park. Arrival and camp set up starts between noon and 1 p.m. Events for the whole family include a nature hike, Scales and Tales program, and cooking demonstration in a dutch oven. Families will be asked to bring the incredients to prepare a main course or side dish and share. Also enjoy a campfire program, try disc golf and view the stars under the night sky.
