Introduction to the Quest
Teams will learn basic orienterring skills, while exploring the Hilton area. To begin your quest, go to the Nature Center where you will find a Park Quest box. Using the code 1101 you will be able to open the box and find a compass (bring your own if available) and a map of the course. Use this map and instructions to find the post and corresponding letter. Once you have solved the puzzle you can choose do to a Bonus Quest that is slightly harder. Once you have finished your quest return the compass to the box and stamp your passport.
This is a self-guided beginner quest. Begin at the Hilton Nature Center. Follow the directions on the worksheet on where to place your compass on the map and how to look for each checkpoint. Each checkpoint post will have a letter designated that is needed to solve the puzzle. When you reach the last post you have the opportunity to return to the nature center to drop off your compass and receive a stamp, or continue to an intermediate Bonus Quest.
Trails may be slippery when wet. Some trails may get steep and/or rocky. Please take your time and do not rush through the quest. Please be aware of mosquitoes, ticks, and poison ivy. It is recommended to wear closed toed shoes, put on bug spray and have sunscreen available. Bring plenty of water and stay hydrated.
Patapsco Valley State Park extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, encompassing more than 16,000 acres and eight developed recreational areas. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, horseback and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking for individuals or large groups in the park's many popular pavilions.
The park is nationally known for its 170 miles of trails, including 70 miles of maintains trails. There are hiker only trails and multi-use trails accessbiel from many areas of Patapsco.

From I-695 (Baltimore Beltway), take Exit 13, Frederick Road west. Follow for two miles and turn left on South Rolling Road. At first intersection, bear right in Hilton Avenue. Continue 1.5 miles and turn right into the park.
From I-95, take Exit 47 (keep left on exit ramp), heading north (Route 166) to South Rolling Road. Follow 1.8 miles and make a sharp left on Hilton Avenue. Continue 1.5 miles and turn right into the park.
